what to expect

Starting well: the discovery call

We always begin with an initial chemistry session  - what I like to call the initial discovery session -  before entering into formal coaching.  The initial call

  • lasts at least 30 minutes

  • usually held online (Zoom, Teams)

  • offers space to explore what you’re looking for and how we might work together

A key purpose of this session is to check that there is a good fit. The effectiveness of coaching is strongly influenced by the quality of the relationship. If Jane feels another coach would be a better match for you, she has a strong network of trusted colleagues and will make a referral where appropriate.

Between sessions: reflection and development

Following each coaching session, you will receive comprehensive coaching notes capturing the essence of our work together.

  • These are for your reflection between sessions

  • Clients find that revisiting the notes generates fresh thinking and insight

You may also be invited to complete home assignments between sessions. These are an important part of the coaching process and are best approached with curiosity, openness and honesty.

We view coaching as a holistic development journey — the work does not stop when the session ends. What happens between sessions is often where the most meaningful change takes place.

Flexible, not formulaic

Some clients are familiar with the GROW model and may wonder whether this sits at the heart of our approach.

While you may experience elements of GROW, Jane works flexibly and integratively, drawing on a range of coaching frameworks. As a result, sessions may differ in focus, feel and tempo, depending on what is most useful for you at the time.

Resources to support your learning

Where relevant, we may suggest reading, podcasts or other resources to support your development.

These are offered as invitations, not requirements — you are always free to decide what feels helpful and manageable.

Building awareness: diagnostics and feedback

Central to our approach is the belief that awareness is key to learning and growth.

To support this, we may suggest some diagnostic or feedback work as part of your coaching journey. This might include:

  • your existing 360° feedback

  • generating new 360° feedback specifically for coaching

  • selected psychometric tools, where appropriate

We work with a range of recognised diagnostics, including:

  • MBTI Step I & II (personality preferences)

  • Hogan Personality Inventory

  • Emotional intelligence (EQ-i 2.0)

  • Thomas–Kilmann Instrument (conflict modes)

  • Schein's Career Anchors.

Any diagnostic work is always discussed and agreed in advance, and used in service of your development goals.

Practicalities and logistics

Typical structure

  • usually six coaching sessions, with the option to extend. We also offer one-off adhoc sessions if required.

  • sessions last 1.5–2 hours

Format

  • coaching can take place via Zoom/Teams or face to face

While we enjoy working in person where possible, online 1-1 coaching works extremely well, offers flexibility, and removes the need for travel.

For face-to-face coaching, we can work:

  • from your own offices, or

  • at one of our preferred locations on London’s Southbank, with views of the river

  • NEW FOR 2026:  if you like art and/or walking, we can also coach and walk in Hyde or Regents Park, Kew Gardens (I'm a member) or stroll through the exhibits at Tate Britain, Tate Modern, or the National Gallery.

Coaching away from your usual workspace can provide valuable psychological distance, space to think, and freedom from day-to-day interruptions.
